My dear AC passed along a flyer which has stolen my heart away. That's the trouble with me...I fall in love so easily. This explains why I'm generally in a neurotic state. There are so many ideas, businesses, grassroot causes and ideals by which to get swept away! I do get swept away and fall hopelessly behind. Then I catch up just to get swept away again. It's a crazy way to live, isn't it? But I don't know any other way and I guess I really don't mind, otherwise I'd change.

Let me say up front that I know this will not be a popular post. There are a grand number of nice and intelligent people who like meat on their plate. This post is to offer those nice and intelligent people a chance to reinforce their convictions and to help those who haven't put too much thought into the meat on their plate make more conscious choices.

A kind reader wrote in regarding my dislike for the presumed non-recyclable Tetra Paks in which is packaged the yummy, yummy, yummy Vita Coco coconut water. Below is what she shared which was received from the company when she inquired about recycling:

So my mother is researching safe cosmetics and personal care products and asks me about this site called OrganicDivas.com. Well, if you know me one little bit, I am so NOT diva'esque that I can hardly bring myself to even pull up the site. I don't wear make-up, don't color my hair...in fact, I'm growing it back out because I can't stand getting it cut all the dang time to keep it short. I am so low-maintenance when it comes to my personal grooming. I use bar soap (for washing & shaving), organic shampoo, organic conditioner, rubbing alcohol and a variety of essential oils. My one foo-foo item is my loofah sponge. Gotta have the loofah-fah! Far from diva, however.

Article originally posted at Zen Habits by contributing writer Jonathan Mead of IlluminatedMind.com: Our planet isn’t in very good shape right now. The air is polluted. The ocean is becoming plastic soup. We’re in a financial crisis. Things don’t seem to be looking too good, huh? There are a lot of people, that have a lot of answers. Everyone things their answer is right. We need cleaner, natural sources for energy. We need biodegradable products that if dumped, will simply disintegrate within a few weeks. As far as the financial crisis goes, that’s a little trickier. Some people say we need more regulation. Others say we need more jobs. Others still say the cost of living is increasing too fast for our incomes to keep up. Everyone has answers. The problem is, none of these answers address the fundamental problem: We don’t need to do anything about it. No, I didn’t stutter. The answer isn’t in better solutions, fixes and different angles. The answer is… we need to do less. There’s a fundamental rule in physics that says, energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be transferred. I’m sure you’re familiar with this, we all learned it in school. And the same rule applies to everything in life, but I guess we didn’t listen very well. See, the problem we’re in this big mess is really simple. It may seem like there’s so much we need to do, to make things right. And that’s the problem. We don’t need to do more. We don’t need to make more of an effort. We need to do less. That’s why I don’t understand a lot of these “green enthusiasts.” They say we need greener products, with less of an environmental impact. They want to make our consumables more eco-friendly. I agree this is part of the answer, but the issue is really only a sliver of the type of things we consume. It’s how much we consume. Consuming has caused the majority of our financial and environmental problems. We take more than we give. We know that we’ll need to repay our debt sooner or later, but we put it off. Interest accrues, financially and ecologically. It’s not until the problem gets so huge — and we can’t ignore it anymore — that we take action. Just like energy cannot be created, or destroyed, we can’t magically make our financial or environmental debts disappear. The rubber band can only bend so far before it swings back. So why do we avoid using less? Why are we so hungry to consume? Maybe it’s because we’re looking for the wrong things. Maybe what we really need is an internal revolution. Let’s take a look at some of the ways we can use the power of less to restore balance.

Is it me, or was Santa sitting at the Thanksgiving table? It's amazing how NO time is lost between the cooling of the gelatinous matter in the turkey roasting pan and the Black Friday hype. But I don't even want to go there or there.

While reading National Geographic magazine (Nov 2008) last night, I got sucked into a fascinating article about the island of Borneo, set between the South China and Java Seas and bisected by the Equator.

NoImpactMan.com compiled a fantastic list - with links - of 40 everyday steps anyone can take to improve their health and that of the planet's.
My favorite: #29: Reach within to determine what inside yourself doesn't feel right, what isn't working for you and start making changes from there.
Read the list here.
